Auckland Home Show 2003

The Enduring Homes display was a hit with visitors to the 2003 Auckland Home Show where the Chardonnay modular home showcased James Hardie's Linea® Weatherboard and Monotek® Sheet. "Chardonnay” is a single level four bedroom home with large living areas and brilliant indoor-outdoor flow to expansive decks - just one of the stunning contemporary home designs in the Enduring Homes range of pre-manufactured homes clad in James Hardie Linea weatherboards. “People are looking for well designed low-maintenance homes at competitive prices,” says Enduring Homes Managing Director, Stephen Barclay. “All the products and building materials we use have to deliver that quality. The great thing about Linea Weatherboard is that it is such a stable product. It won't warp or rot, and it can take the darker colours that are popular today, but the shadow lines create the same look as traditional weatherboards.” The Chardonnay Show Home at the Auckland Home Show allowed visitors to see Linea up close and in action, in combination with James Hardie's Monotek Sheet cladding. Enduring Homes build up to 80% of their homes in the factory. This enables homes to be completed in as little time as three months from deposit to occupancy, but that doesn't mean that anything is compromised as Stephen explains. “Building in the factory gives us complete control over the process so there's no time lost to bad weather, or waiting for subcontractors. That's where time and money is saved – not by cutting corners. In fact, our quality is such that we are the only company in New Zealand producing homes with a 5 year guarantee from Carter Holt Harvey.” This factory-based method of building is the way 60% of homes are built in Scandanavia and is the fastest growing building method in the United States. In New Zealand the method has been used by large scale housing developers for some years, now Enduring Homes are bringing the same advantages to individual home buyers. Typically, a three bedroom home will comprise 3 modules. Walls, floors, ceilings, kitchens and bathrooms, plumbing and electrical work are all done in the factory, then trucked to the site with foundation work, gib-stopping, internal and external painting and landscaping completed on site. “When you say ‘modular' or ‘pre-manufactured', some people think that means that they can't have any input into the design.” says, Stephen Barclay. “Actually, the opposite is true. All our home designs are as flexible as you want to make them. You can add bedrooms, move walls, increase the living spaces, add a bathroom. Essentially families are able to customise their home to suit their needs. Our homes are designed for the New Zealand lifestyle, so maximun use of natural light and big living spaces flowing out to generous decks are standard features.” |
