Widespread Appeal
A stylish combination of Linea™ Weatherboard and Axon™ Panel ensures this Jennian Homes showhome receives a warm reception.
We've seen it so often with the home designs featured on TVShowhomes. Whether they're modern or traditional-style houses, in rural, coastal or urban settings, in virtually every instance, James Hardie products work effortlessly to enhance the visual appeal and functionality of the home.
And this Jennian Homes showhome in the Wairarapa is another great example of how Linea™ Weatherboard, used here in combination with Axon™ Panel and HardieGroove™ Soffit Lining, brings a contemporary flair to a relaxed, ranch-style home in Masterton.
The 250m2 home, a variation of the Koru design from Jennian Homes' popular Pounamu Series, is the ideal rural retreat for a lifestyle block, but it also makes a perfect spacious urban home.
With a roomy, open-plan living area, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large media room/study, it was conceived with family living and entertaining in mind. The living area is contained in a centrally located, rectangular-shaped space with the entrance, study and garage to one side, and the bedrooms in a T-shaped wing on the other side.
This unique design means that every room in the house has an exterior window, says Gareth Norris, managing director of Jennian Homes Wairarapa.
"It's an ideal house for those who love the sun and natural light," he says. "The open-plan living space provides all the room you need for family and friends, and a wonderful feature is the large overhangs at either end. With HardieGroove™ Soffit Lining, they provide shade during the summer, allowing you to open the bi-fold doors to capture the breeze."
The exterior features an eye-catching mix of Linea™ Weatherboard interspersed with Axon™ Panel and accented with columns finished in split stone for a subtle rustic touch.
"We looked at a range of products for this home," says Gareth, "but the combination of Linea™ Weatherboard and Axon™ was a great choice. The products complement each other and we're very pleased with the result."
What's more, Gareth says they've had excellent feedback from those who've visited the showhome.
"People love the combination of cladding materials, and frequently comment that if they were building this home, they'd use exactly the same products. We used Monotek® Sheet on our last showhome and that also met with a great response.
But aside from good looks, the home is also easy to look after – a feature that Gareth says all homeowners are looking for.
"Everyone wants something that's easy to maintain and doesn't need repainting after a few years – and that's particularly important with the extreme climate in the Wairarapa. There are a lot of timber weatherboard homes here, but when we explain the benefits of Linea™, it doesn’t take much to convince people what a great product it is. It's a common sense option for us."
Homeowners Rob and Angela Duncan agree. They're currently building a Jennian Homes house clad in Linea™ Weatherboard, and loved the look and practicality of this Jennian showhome.
"The indoor-outdoor flow and bi-fold doors at the end of the living space are wonderful features, especially when you have a family and enjoy entertaining," says Rob. "We also love the combination of Axon™ and Linea™ Weatherboard – it's got a slight retro look – and the low-maintenance aspect is obviously a huge selling point. You get the look of timber but don't have to repaint it."
James Hardie products also feature inside this home, with Villaboard Lining providing a watertight substrate beneath the bathroom wall tiles, and Tile & Slate Underlay ensuring a strong, even surface on which to lay floor tiles in the bathroom and kitchen.
