Signature Homes Canterbury

When you build upwards of 30 homes each year and you've been doing so for well over two decades, you must be doing something right. In the case of Kerry and David Magill of Signature Homes Canterbury, that something right comes down to one, very fundamental philosophy. “I wouldn't build a home for one of our clients that I wouldn't happily live in myself,” says David. “Our reputation's too important to us to let standards slip, so everything's got to be spot on.” Signature Homes' Canterbury is very much the baby of Kerry and David, who are a team in every sense of the word. Kerry explains. “I tend to focus on the colours, interiors and the general look and feel of each home we build and leave David to concentrate on the actual physical construction. We're lucky to have a very loyal group of people around us who make an immense contribution to the business. We firmly believe that if you look after your staff, they'll look after you.” In the recently completed showhome property at Hampton Grange on Christchurch's north-western outskirts, Signature Homes has created a house of real note. “We were after quite a dramatic, architectural finish. That's why we chose to combine Linea® Weatherboard with the Titan® panels,” says David Magill. “They gave us the high visual impact we wanted - what some people might call “street appeal” - in a fantastically low-maintenance package.”
In the past few years, David Magill has noticed a marked upswing in the number of prospective new homeowners turning to building companies like Signature Homes. With the introduction of the new, more stringent Building Act, the days of fly-by-night operations are clearly over. “We build in a healthy amount of reassurance into every home we're involved with,” he says. ”That means using the best materials, offering a fixed price contract, guaranteeing a completion date and backing all that up with a no hidden costs guarantee. It all pays off in the end. There are no nasty surprises and we complete the job with very happy clients.” Read more articles related to this story…
