A landmark home such as this, built to stand out from an external perspective, demands an equally eye-catching approach from within. All open-plan, light and airy – a direct result of the seemingly endless double glazed, cool green windows and the soaring 3.5 metre ceiling stud – it immediately strikes you as a place where most of life's creature comforts have been considered and provided for. Kerry Magill from Signature Homes is a firm believer in utilising as much natural light as possible. “Quite apart from the obvious visual aspect, normal sunlight, when combined with the double glazing, helps to warm the house from the outside in.” The entire home is spread over a healthy 302m2. The main communal living area essentially covers two connected spaces. One a slightly more formal lounge with a sleek, 1200mm Real Fire gas fire the clear focal point, the other an informal environment that incorporates a relaxed family room, dining area and a smart designer kitchen.
With Christchurch being well known for its crisp winter climate, heating was a major factor in the internal spec. Aside from the gas fire, the home also features under tile heating and a complete reverse cycle air conditioning system. In common with the facade, quality Resene paints have been used throughout. The predominant shade being Resene ¼ Spanish White on the living, dining and lounge walls, and on all doors, skirting, architraves and window frames. Lighting is controlled by a C-Bus Control and Management System which allows various pre-programmed lighting configurations to be activated at the touch of a button and removes the need for multiple switches throughout the room. The high-tech accoutrements don't end there, however. There's also a full audio/visual home theatre system created by Strawberry Sound and a Cyclo Vac central vacuum set-up, with outlets both in the kitchen and in every other room in the house. With 4-5 bedrooms, one of which could be designated as a study, it's undeniably a place where the extended family and guests can spread out and relax. The main bedroom, which looks out on to the private courtgarden and pool area, is a true sanctuary, with its own walk-in robe and bathroom, including spa bath. Storage and workspaces also abound. The hallway walls being lined with discreet shelving and the laundry a room big enough to tackle even the busiest wash day.
The long list of features aside, it's how they're put together that really defines this Signature Homes showhome. There's a harmony to the finished article that marks it out as something very special. Read more articles related to this story...
