Interior design and details

As befits a home designed for growing families, the interior of this David Reid Heritage property at Hampton Grange, Christchurch, has been focused on warmth, comfort and sufficient hardiness to withstand anything even the most boisterous children could throw at it. That's not to say, however, that this has meant any compromises from an aesthetic standpoint. In common with the exterior styling, effort has been made to match the interior to the home's southern locale, the rugged, schist-clad open fireplace being clearest evidence of this. In the formal lounge, a beautiful bay window seat occupies pride of place beneath soaring monastic glass panes. Resene paints from the Karen Walker range have been used throughout. As Karen Walker says herself, this range is based around her love for dusty, slightly chalky, worn looking colours - shades that set a mood without necessarily being the first thing one notices. David Reid's consultant interior designer Christina Ferguson has opted for Sandspit Brown in the entry, Jetsam Brown in the formal lounge and, once again, Sandspit Brown in the remaining communal living areas and bathrooms.
As far as floor coverings are concerned, Christina chose Cavalier Bremworth's Ridgeway carpet in the Miill Stone shade. One of the more pleasing features is the plentiful provision of storage space, both in key areas such as the kitchen and elsewhere throughout the house. In the kitchen, ergonomically-sound Wilsonart Biltmore Cherry drawers lend a distinctive, visual impression to what could have quite easily been a purely functional inclusion. The large walk-in pantry serves as both spacious cupboard and a child-friendly food preparation area. And the stainless steel workspaces, mixed with quality Smeg appliances add the necessary finishing touches to what is a simply outstanding kitchen.
David Reid Homes is a company that refuses to contemplate stock-standard design or building practices. Every aspect of this display home is designed to impress, even down to the underfloor heating – essential given Canterbury's crisp, winter weather. Down the hallway (heaps of cleverly hidden storage here!) there are four bedrooms. The main bedroom is predictably large and light, with bi-fold doors opening onto the paved outdoor entertaining area. It also contains its own walk-in robe and en suite, with a tiled Wet Floor Shower System and Michel Cesar Light double vanity. As with all David Reid display homes, James Hardie's Villaboard® Lining has been used to protect every wet area. “Villaboard is a product we know we can trust,” says David Reid's Richard Freeman. “It's like a built-in security blanket against water damage and, quite frankly, we wouldn't consider using anything else.”
Completing the overall impression is a sizeable family bathroom with Clearlite Platinum shower and Platinum Hydrotherapy Spa, the almost essential 3 car garage and a Lux CV792 Central Vacuum System. This is a home that David Reid Homes Canterbury is exceptionally proud of. No doubt future owners will feel very much the same.
