Whats the difference between a tint and a shade, or a tone and a hue – find out here: Hue: This is just another word for ‘colour'. It means pure colour that is unmixed with white or black or grey. Tint: A tint is a pure colour (hue) with white added to it. The amount of white alters the reflective value. Shade: A shade is a pure colour (hue) with black added to it. The more black, the less reflective value it will have. Tone: This is pure colour with grey added. This has a softening effect. Intensity: This refers to the brightness or dullness of colours. Intensity will vary depending on what other colours are around them. Less intense colours tend to be calmer, more intense colours are stimulating (or jarring!) depending on your point of view.
