Inside Information

One look at the McRaeway Homes Visitors Book tells you all you need to know about their Cosmos home design. Comments like ‘great finish', ‘well presented' and ‘you exceeded our expectations' speak volumes about McRaeway's unerring eye for the kind of detail potential homeowners are searching for.

Certainly, the Cosmos has been well looked over. Since the first display home was built little over a year ago, more than 20,000 people have visited, with many going on to build.

Home comfort and affordability are two key components of the McRaeway Homes offering. Company founder Ian McRae based his business on harnessing the cost effectiveness and ease of kitset home building without compromising on the standard of finishes and workmanship consumers expect. In fact, if anything, McRaeway seems to go beyond accepted standards.

In the featured Cosmos display home in Timaru, quality New Zealand made Resene paints have been used throughout. On the entrance's feature wall, it's Resene Delta with Arabella and on the main walls, skirtings and door frames the neutral tone ofBiscotti.

The immediate impression is of an easy-going, open plan interior environment ideally suited to family living. The dining area, lounge and kitchen are adjacent to each other and form the hub of most activity within the house.

The spacious dining area is lined in Tarket timber flooring with a frosted glass wall that replicates the look of the Titan cubes on the exterior walls.  The lounge, with its powerful Jetmaster gas fire is carpeted in Cavalier Bremworth's textured Ridgeway pattern.

High ceilings and large doors and windows allow for plenty of natural light and enhance the sense of freedom that is very much a part of the home's appeal. The fly-away pitch of the verandah roof also allows an unimpeded view to the outside whilst still providing all necessary shading.

In the kitchen, as in all areas of the Cosmos, quality fittings are the rule. With easy serving access to the entertaining area on the verandah through bi-fold windows, it contains Fisher & Paykel appliances including oven, cooktop, rangehood and dishdrawer dishwasher.

There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms in the standard Cosmos plan. Each of the bedrooms is at least double-sized, with the main occupying a similarly large floor area to the family lounge.

Both bathrooms feature Athena Seville shower boxes and Smails Pepe wall-hung vanities.

The Oxford Dictionary defines Cosmos as “…a well ordered whole”. McRaeway Homes' Cosmos lives up to this description in every way with a clean, simple and very liveable interior almost any family would love to come home to.
